We embarked upon a shopping expedition that took us through the colourful gullies of Varanasi. We strolled through the market at a leisurely pace, taking in the sights of the busy streets bustling with pilgrims, tourists, and vendors.
It was Maha Shivaratri or “The Great Night of Shiva”, a festival that celebrates the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Every year, millions of devotees and tourists from across the globe visit Kashi to witness the festivities and soak in the essence of Shiva’s favourite abode.
Also known as Varanasi or Benares, Kashi is deeply rooted in mythology, spirituality, religion, and culture. Its history is believed to date back thousands of years, making it one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.
